What do you do at LIVE? I am the Client Services Director heading up the events and production teams at LIVE. I manage the key agency clients across our business and head up the majority of senior level appointments.
How long have you been at LIVE? 5 and a half brilliant years
What do you love most about your job? My fantastic team and the people I work with. The long standing client relationships I have and the ever-changing industry mean no two days are the same!
What does a typical day involve? There is no such thing as a typical day! However, if I am in the office we start with a team meeting first thing to prioritise everyone’s workload and where we can all share any new jobs we are working on or great new candidates who have registered. My time is then spent talking to any potential candidates for jobs, catching up with clients around the recruitment process and timescales as well as driving new business. I spend a fair amount of time out with clients on face-to-face meetings as well as attending industry events.
What did you do before you joined LIVE? I worked in professional services recruitment when I left Uni. Then I took the plunge and joined an events company as it was something I had always wanted to do. They specialised in exhibition management. However, I was brought in to set up the event agency division. I set up the client base from scratch, made targeted sales calls to prospects and confirmed new business meetings to present credentials and ultimately win event business. We offered event management and venue finding services to a range of clients and I won and delivered an awards ceremony for 600 at the Hilton Metropole, as well as an annual team building a Gala event at The Belfry for a finance association. Alas I missed the buzz of recruitment and when the perfect role presented itself as an Account Manager at LIVE recruiting for the events industry I jumped at the chance!
If you could have an evening with any three people from now or history, who would it be and why:
Margaret Thatcher; she was such a fascinating and powerful woman (and to ask how she survived on 5 hours sleep a night!)
Alan Carr; he makes me laugh out loud
Elvis Presley; in his early career – I grew up on his music and he will always be a legend.
What song is guaranteed to get you on the dance floor? One of my favourites and our theme tune at LIVE – Gwen McCrae “All this love that I’m giving”
What really grinds your gears? Laziness and rude people
If you could eat only one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Thai green curry (really spicy)
Suited and booted or smart casual: Anything with heels
What piece of advice would you give your-17-year-old-self? Think twice, but have no regrets!
Most embarrassing moment: Too many to list! However, falling over in Ibiza and landing on my chin on the way to Pacha probably tops it in recent years! Damn those high heels!
Your advice to someone trying to get into the events industry: Be tenacious and get some unpaid work experience in relevant corporate events agencies, if you can to bolster your CV. And check out all our advice on the blog!
