The importance of knowing where your CV goes

The importance of knowing where your CV goes

So you've decided that the time is right to look for another role and a fresh challenge in the events industry.  You've updated your CV with all relevant details and experience, but what should you do now?  Sending out your CV to lots of different companies for lots of different jobs may seem like a good idea, however, it can be counter-productive.

Before you start to send out your CV you need to research which companies you'd like to work for and which particular job roles you would be interested in, and then apply for those relevant roles only.  Sometimes people think if they apply to lots of jobs for the same company in a scatter gun approach, they will have more chance of getting an interview.  This is not the case.

Why are duplications bad?

If a potential employer receives multiple applications for different jobs from the same candidate then it may look like they are showing no thought for what they are applying for and can look disorganised, or even slightly desperate.  The employer is far more likely to pass this candidate over for one that has taken a more considered approach and has applied for roles only relevant to their skill set and experience.

How can you avoid making duplication applications?

There are a few ways that you can ensure your job searching goes well with no duplications.
Ensure you keep a record of all of the applications you make, the advert responded to, the date you applied and the method of application – e.g. sent to a particular email address.

Alternatively, utilise the services of a specialist event recruitment agency. Be warned, some agencies do not follow good practice and once they have your CV, may send your details to jobs they are currently working on without your knowledge or permission, so make sure you are clear that you do not want your CV sent anywhere without your consent!

A good recruitment agency such as Live Recruitmentwill take the time to find out exactly what you are searching for in your next role and that will fit with your skillset and preferred location, as well as finding out where your CV has been previously sent to avoid any duplication.  The team at Live will discuss with you any potential jobs along with the company involved and will never send your CV without your permission, so you know exactly where your details have been sent and you retain control.
